And when they reappeared the following season we beat them 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Indeed we did Dan and on my Dads 90th birthday :-)

We won't mention who knocked us out that season !!

Re: Magic of the cup
well, i still love the FA cup, I like watching the non-league teams providing that cup upset, when they reap the rewards that can sustain the club when they get a lucrative fixture. Its only the prem teams that field fringe and youngsters, but at what cost? Liverpool have to play another fixture and entertain Shrewsbury - when as a Shrewsbury fan will you ever get to Anfield if the FA cup wasnt about? A brilliant away day for them.
My lad came back from Newcastle with his Oxford mates and said it was one of the best atmospheres he's been in. Again great money spinner for Oxford and good luck to them (local team) I was there for the West Ham game less said about that the better.
What you get is a one-off game, where desire and passion is all to see especially from those lower tier clubs. For me the FA cup is good and well.

Klopp talking about respecting the winter break and how he and the 1st team will not be at Anfield for the replay playing the kids instead.
Team will be managed by Neil Critchley who took charge of the villa league cup tie.
Obviously very low down his list of priorities compared to PL & CL.

I used to care about the Cup even when we were out.

My interest died yesterday.

To be fair they matched them at the end even when Firmino and Salah came on.
Good to see a team giving everything for the shirt.

Amazing what self-belief can do. Even though a draw, well played Shrewsbury. Joe Hart's happy. The useless cunt.

Re: Magic of the cup
If we'd won yesterday, it would be "still the greatest competition in football". *

It's shit, because we lost and we're shit.

Oh look, League Cup also "shit" and a "waste of time"
Premier League "shit", as it's the same old clubs.
Modern football generally "shit"

Why is that?

* Yesterday wasn't even an upset. 4 places between clubs: they're on an upward trajectory, we're in free fall. "Shit" but no surprises.

Personally I thought the notts forest cup game was a real low point in our history and there's been a few , I do wonder whether fat sam was simply obeying his pay masters though or it was his own doing .

Re: Magic of the cup
It started to lose it's magic with these cnuts and the Premiere league !!!

1999–2000
The title holders Manchester United, withdrew from the 1999–2000 competition due to their participation in the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship in South America, to take place in early 2000, thus becoming the first FA Cup winners not to defend their title.

Re: Magic of the cup
The competition has been gradually eroded since the start of the premier league and the riches it brings.
Clubs would now rather finish two places higher in the PL rather than win the cup because of the greater income it brings.
The Tv companies decide when games are to played same as the PL and no consideration whatsoever given to travelling fans.
The thing that done it for me was a few years back when big Sam put out the team of youngsters at notts Forrest they were like lambs to the slaughter and that experience prob destroyed a good few confidence wise.
The fact that we then drew with Chelsea in midweek after a run of defeats to me no way vindicated this but that is what the likes of Big Sam are all about.
Money dictates and the fans treated like shit because gate receipts are now a drop in the ocean compared to tv revenue.
